Tell Us A Little Something About Yourself
I’m Erin, the Owner, Creator, Designer and Maker of The Boho Pet. I'm a self confessed crazy dog lady, an avid animal lover, a professional pet photographer and modern macramé maker. I moved to Melbourne 10 years ago from Wellington, NZ and immersed myself in the active dog community we have here. I consider Peanut, my dog, to be my main inspiration in a lot of what I do and why. She has shown me so much about our relationships with pets and how important they are! It was her that led me into pet photography and now also into creating unique pet accessories for other discerning pet owners like myself.
What Inspired You To Start Your Own Business?
I’ve been a professional pet photographer for many years so I’ve spent a lot of time working within the pet and creative industries. With a new desire to use my hands in a creative craft, I wanted to further delve into my creative side and make something more tactile. I wanted to design and create a unique product which is 100% crafted from my own original ideas and style and be able to incorporate this with my love of dogs.
What Does Your Business Offer, And What Makes It Unique?
The Boho Pet was born to adorn your pet with glamorous, yet practical pet accessories for fellow animal lovers just like myself. We hand make bespoke decorative textile dog collars, leads and bandanas. A little bit boho and a lot chic! Constructed using macramé knotting techniques and patterns with a unique bohemian style. We have created our signature boho style using lush shimmer metallic cotton threads and elegant metal hardware resulting in a quality handmade product which sets a benchmark for style.
What Are The Most Rewarding And Challenging Parts Of Your Job And Owning Your Own Business?
Some of the most rewarding moments for me so far have been seeing my business come to life, receiving amazing feedback about my products, having people enjoy my products for their pets and seeing my products being worn on peoples pets. I'm always very proud of my creations and I put a lot of love into making these. The challenging part I guess is having to wear so many different hats when it comes to running a business and having to learn a lot of it as you go.
Whats your end goal? The moment you'll know you've achieved what you want to?
Currently this is my second business and is still in its early days, but I have big ideas for it. Even though it is quite a niche product, I would love this business to get to a point where I need to up-scale production and bring in other people to keep up with a growing demand for products and orders and have this running at a full-time capacity.
