Tell Us A Little Something About Yourself
I’m Silvia, an event Planner and Stylist inspired by a passion for beautiful things, and love of entertaining.
I love discovering new cultures, languages and traditions. I am now Australian, but I was born in Italy (mum is Hungarian, while dad is from Venice), my husband is french and my little girl has 4 nationalities - which I love!
I am creative and passionate, with an eye for details and new trends.
I specialise in bespoke events (private and corporate) and weddings (local and international).
What Inspired You To Start Your Own Business?
Growing up in a typical Italian trattoria in the beautiful Euganei Hills, just one hour from Venice, I have an innate love for celebration, entertainment, events, breathtaking settings and good food.
I pursued my event management career in Budapest and London working on a variety of events and specialised in marketing, and public relations for beauty and fashion later in Melbourne.
I realised that my favourite part of my job was event planning: starting something from scratch, overtaking all the challenges and seeing it coming to life beautifully, it’s such a rewarding experience .
So after organising my dream wedding in Italy (and struggling to get all the information i needed from the other side of the world) I decided to start this new adventure and use my passion to guide anyone else who wants to celebrate their special day overseas or create unforgettable events and memories in Australia.
What Does Your Business Offer, And What Makes It Unique?
No.14 is a boutique event company inspired by a passion for beautiful things and love of entertaining, dedicated to those who are of the belief that every day of your life is a special occasion, and should be celebrated.
We specialise in Italian Weddings from Australia, but also local weddings, bespoke events and private parties in Melbourne and Sydney.
My corporate Marketing and PR background helps me to visualise and transform every event in a unique, personalized and memorable experience with all sorts of budgets. I like to work close with my clients and understand their story and end goal, to design and bring to life their dream event.
What Does Your Journey Look Like?
I started by helping out in my parents restaurant in Italy during my studies and I worked as a hostess/promoter for local events. I moved to Budapest for an internship and to practice my Hungarian. There I fell in love with events.
I decided to move to London in 2010, after I received my Bachelor's in Communications, to further develop my english and create new opportunities. I was granted a scholarship for Marketing and Events, which led to an internship, which then led to a job.
I also met my French husband there before we moved to Melbourne in 2014.
Prior to launching my events business I have been in the fashion, beauty and lifestyle industry working on all things Marketing, PR and events for 8 years, 4 of them in London and 4 in Melbourne.
Did You Always Think You'd Be Doing This?
I have an innate love for events. I love attending events and I have been fortunate enough to be invited to some amazing ones throughout the years. But most of all I love planning and bringing events to life.
I have always been a creative person. My childhood career dream was to become a makeup artist, but my teen career dream was to be a wedding planner with one of my best friends in Italy.
We are both getting there - as we're both in the events industry, but on opposite sides of the world! We love to help each other and who knows - maybe one day we'll end up working together!
I always loved planning parties for my family and friends, but the pivotal moment for me was my Mum’s 50th birthday. I was 18 and I planned a surprise reception, poolside at a luxury hotel in our area. I invited family and friends, including some of my mum’s relatives and friends from Hungary. At the time I didn’t know, but one of her friends was a big name in Hungary in the event and PR industry and she loved the event I created and my ability to negotiate. She offered me an internship in her Communication firm in Budapest and while I was there we hosted a number of incredible events, including the yearly summit of the international Advertising Association (as she was the IAA Vice President), a yearly TV award and Gala Event and several events in luxury venues for the Members Canadian Chamber of Commerce (as she was the President). I LOVED everything! The planning and styling, the adrenaline just before the event, seeing the guests enjoying the party… even having to order over 200 lobster and negotiate fridge capacity at Budapest’s premium dinner venues!
What Are The Most Rewarding And Challenging Parts Of Your Job And Owning Your Own Business?
Starting something from scratch, taking on all the challenges and seeing it coming to life beautifully, it’s such a rewarding experience. This is both for my events and my business. Of course there are ups and downs (see Coronavirus), but I believe it is important to always stay positive and see the glass half full. It is important to learn from your mistakes and trust the people close to you as they will be your biggest fans and influencers.
Whats Your End Goal? The Moment You'll Know You've Achieved What You Want To?
I don’t have a set end goal. My business is still fairly new and the event landscape is ever changing. I have so many ideas and things I want to create to help people live a life full of events and memorable moments. I believe you never stop learning and grow personally alongside your business.
For the moment, my goal is to create a better present and help people to enjoy the everyday.
