Tell Us A Little Something About Yourself
I love to travel and to have the ability to work remotely. I was an international flight attendant for many years which was an amazing experience and provided me with so much personal growth. Experiencing many cultural differences has helped me to appreciate what I have, and inspires me to use the resources and skills I have to help others.
What Inspired You To Start Your Own Business?
For over 20 years my parents owned, developed, and grew an electrical business from the ground up. I learned so much, and was inspired from a young age of what it was to be an entrepreneur.
But my inspiration really started in the early stages of my sister Kates business when she struggled to find reliable wholesalers and good quality packaging. I really wanted to help her out and provide better alternatives. I explain it in more detail in this video
What Does Your Business Offer, And What Makes It Unique?
I created BOXXD to fill the gap in the market which was to make buying packaging easy, by offering a high-quality product at wholesale volumes to keep the price affordable.
We are an online wholesale - ie. no store, no pickups, all online which allows us to invest in new technologies such as videos and VR to show products to our customers. This allows us to reach the entire world rather than just one store in one city.
What Does Your Journey Look Like?
As mentioned I was an international flight attendant but the desire to have something of my own, and help my sister with her business drove me to launch BOXXD in January of 2019.
Since then, we built the website and learnt how to manage stock and ship orders.
When we started to grow rapidly we shifted warehouse's into a specialist logistics hub which allowed us to focus our energy on designing new products and creating incredible customer experiences!
In a short amount of time, BOXXD has grown at rapid rates and continues to do so which is exciting. As we grow both our team and customer base we remain committed to providing amazing customer support and a great quality product.
Did You Always Think You'd Be Doing This?
I always knew that I wanted to have my own business and growing up I actually had a few. For example, as a child I had a gumball business, where I'd sell gumballs to other children in the street, a DJ business where I'd DJ at birthday parties and schools dances, and even dabbled in website development and hosting when I was around 15 years old.
I wanted to start another business for a few years but I just didn't know what I wanted. BOXXD just sort of happened, and guess thats how these businesses can often work out to be the best.
As I get older my desires change, but one thing that always provides me energy is learning! I enjoy developing new systems and learning about customers, employees and ways things are done internationally. All these things make me feel better positioned to manage potential issues before they arise.
What Are The Most Rewarding And Challenging Parts Of Your Job And Owning Your Own Business?
The most challenging parts are twofold.
- Managing employees (as we all work remotely). Ensuring that my employees have the necessary training to make sure they are great at what they do is always a challenge
- Managing relationships with manufacturers. Ensuring we make only the best quality products we have a strict set criteria in place for manufacturers to adhere to. Sometimes there is a lapse in standards so, addressing and rectifying that can be a challenge.
The most rewarding part would be seeing our customers positive Trustpilot reviews. I love implementing new technology to drive BOXXD forward and too often companies can run into issues by not communicating changes to customers. So to know that our customer experience is on point is amazing.
Whats Your End Goal? The Moment You'll Know You've Achieved What You Want To?
A tricky question as things change every day and it's hard to know what the future holds. I try to enjoy every day and my goal is to continue working on BOXXD for the next few years and see how it is then. I think I'll wake up one day and decide that my time is up and I can no longer add the value the company needs, but for now, I still feel positive about the direction I'm taking the company.
