Tell Us A Little Something About Yourself
I found joy in baking when I was roughly 13 years old and have been doing it ever since.
It’s been a good 5 years now since I started baking for events and about 1 year since I developed the courage to venture outside of word of mouth business.
What Inspired You To Start Your Own Business?
I used baking as an avenue to focus on something outside of my day to day work.
It wasn’t until friends, and friends of friends kept pushing me to start something online that I took the first step to venture outside my normal word of mouth business.
What Does Your Business Offer, And What Makes It Unique?
Cakes, cakes and more cakes.
I believe in honesty and integrity - what I offer is honest cost and a breakdown of where every single one of your dollars is spent.
What Does Your Journey Look Like?
Lots of word of mouth.
The Western Sydney community is generally one of word of mouth. I've been fortunate enough that I have such a great support network that wanted me to succeed. I can’t thank them enough.
Did You Always Think You'd Be Doing This?
Definitely not. I come from a very strict educational background where being a doctor is the end goal. Focusing on a career in baking is something that was not spoken about growing up.
Being first generation Australian though has helped me navigate what it possible and what opportunities you have in Australia to try living a dream (especially if the dream isn’t to dive straight into a University course)
What Are The Most Rewarding And Challenging Parts Of Your Job And Owning Your Own Business?
The most rewarding part is the feedback from clients - especially when they say “this is the best I’ve ever had. I cannot find this anywhere else”. It means the world that your hard work is appreciated.
The most challenging part is definitely keeping up with the new ways of marketing and technology for your business. It does take a certain mindset to understand what is needed and how you should start off.
Whats Your End Goal? The Moment You'll Know You've Achieved What You Want To?
I currently don’t have an end goal.
I’m very happy baking for enjoyment and to provide an option for those who can’t afford cakes from traditional methods (and paying highly marked up prices). If I can still do this as I grow old - I’ll be over the moon.
