Tell Us A Little Something About Yourself
I started papercutting about 6 years ago. A good friend of mine was doing a project at uni and she shared a video of her cutting paper and making beautiful things. I bought a paper knife and started my journey into the papercutting world. That’s when the sparkle started.
I love making art out of paper and more often than not, I spend hours and hours cutting paper 🙃 . I’ve come a long way since I started but everyday I learn something new. I started by papercutting [very intricate] animals, to then moving to abstract pieces.
My latest passion [or obsession] is to papercut portraits. My pieces can take from 2 to 18 hours to be cut and completed, but whenever I finish a piece and I frame it I know it’s all worth it 🙈
What Inspired You To Start Your Own Business?
Feedback from friends and family that my art was so beautiful and unique that others needed to know about it! To this day, I still can’t believe people love what I create as much as I do 🥰
What Does Your Business Offer, And What Makes It Unique?
I make art out of cutting one single sheet of paper. They are unique and bespoke. There’s never one piece like the other.
What Does Your Journey Look Like?
I started papercutting for fun and today I am hoping that one day it will be my full time job. At the moment I juggle between a full time job and my passion for creating art out of paper. I spend every spare minute and second creating art and building my community
Did You Always Think You'd Be Doing This?
As a kid I wanted to be a surgeon. But that never happened and today I work in marketing. However I guess one can argue that in order to cut tiny little pieces of paper one needs to have steady hands like a surgeon, so maybe I did achieve my childhood dream - today I am a paper surgeon 😅
What Are The Most Rewarding And Challenging Parts Of Your Job And Owning Your Own Business?
Challenging parts are juggling time, and also juggling between my passion to create art and my understanding that I need to market my business to others.
The most rewarding is to see other people’s reaction when they see my art or a customised paper art they ordered from me! I’ve been turning personal photos into paper art and love seeing people’s reactions to it
Whats Your End Goal? The Moment You'll Know You've Achieved What You Want To?
The moment my art is recognised internationally. The moment I see my art hanging on an art exhibition wall.
The moment I get to sell my art in quantities
